She was 21. Fresh out of engineering, 3 weeks into her first job at Goldman Sachs, still learning how to exist in a city like New York — one that didn't slow down for anyone.

The women on the subway mesmerized her: their stride, their presence in that 7am subway chaos. But the women were just the spark — it was the heels she couldn't stop looking at.

In a city that felt nothing like home, heels became her anchor — and then, quietly, an obsession.

17 pairs! That's how many she collected in 6 months in New York. She'd gone as an engineer with limited interest in fashion — she came back with 17 pairs of heels and an obsession she hasn't put down since.

That obsession became Nuvah.

I know what a great heel does to you. I also know what a bad one takes away. And I say that as someone who has loved heels since she was 21.

Buying heels in India broke my trust early. Again, and again, and again.

My wedding heels were perfect. Except they weren't. They were stunning — and they made my wedding day one of the most painful experiences of my life.
I spent the most important hours I've ever lived thinking about my feet.

Not my husband. Not the people I love. My feet.
